Stay & Donate Presents QYO: A Night That Hit All the Right Notes

On Monday, 24 November, The Calile hosted an event that brought together arts supporters and celebrated talented young musicians, featuring a remarkable performance by the Queensland Youth Orchestras (QYO) Big Band.

The evening raised just over $10,000, which will support QYO’s talented young musicians on their first international tour to Japan. Over two weeks, they’ll perform and collaborate across Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama, taking Queensland’s sound to the world.

The high began weeks earlier. On 6 November, QYO surprised guests with a spontaneous poolside performance of ‘Chips and Salsa’ at The Calile. Outfitted by Venroy, their bold resort look added unexpected swing and fun to the poolside setting, transforming a relaxed afternoon into one that commanded attention.

Queensland Youth Orchestras (QYO) stands as a pillar of artistic excellence and cultural development in our state. For nearly sixty years, QYO has nurtured the development of young musicians through rigorous training and mentorship fostered by Queensland’s unique musical educational curriculum.  This world-class non-profit organisation doesn’t just teach music, it instils discipline, confidence, and a sense of community, preparing musicians aged 8 to 25 to perform on national and global stages. Many of Australia’s leading orchestras are powered by QYO alumni, a testament to the program’s impact and legacy.

We are inspired to support QYO and their mentorship of young talent. The fundraiser was presented as part of The Calile’s Stay & Donate program – an initiative that turns hospitality into impact by raising funds for artists, educators, sustainability and essential services to support our community and the individuals behind the scenes who enhance our city’s richness, vibrancy, and generosity.

To everyone who joined us and made this milestone possible, thank you.
