Charity

A year supporting our community

We are committed to supporting our community through our ongoing charitable commitments. Over the past 12 months, ours, and our generous guests’ efforts have raised more than $160,000 for local charities.

We have much to be thankful for.

We believe that charity shouldn’t be limited to the festive season. We try to do our small part throughout the year to help support community organisations that are the true torchbearers – those that champion the people and causes in need of support within our community.

It is for this reason, we have committed to what we think is a unique position in our industry – every single night a guest stays with us, 365 days a year, we donate $5 directly to charity.  We also encourage our guests to match or better the donation, and to our everlasting thanks, many do.

For all that have contributed to our charitable mission in 2024, we have summarised what your generous support has helped achieve below.

3rd Space

3rd Space is a drop-in centre for individuals, families and groups experiencing or at risk of homelessness, providing practical services of a café, day rest area, showers, laundry facilities, therapeutic medical and allied health services and professional advice on housing, legal and wellbeing matters.

A vital part of the organisation is access to nutritious food via the café, with people able to choose free or low-cost meals 7-days a week. The Calile charitable contribution helps to fund the café and its operations. With over 44,000 meals were served in the last financial year, the café helps to ensure people who are experience food insecurity can access the food they need.

Australasian Dance Collective (ADC)

ADC has carved out a name for itself nationally for its bold and exciting performances that push the boundaries.  More than a contemporary dance organisation; ADC is a true collective with a multi-armed and trans-generational approach to dance with five core elements: the ‘Company’ is an extraordinary ensemble of six professional dancers; a Youth Ensemble for young dancers aged 14-19; a Mature Ensemble with no age limit; a Pre-Professional Program to new progress talent; and a First Collective Residency with BlakDance to support established and emerging First Nations choreographers and dancers.

Over the past year, The Calile’s support has enabled ADC to engage many artists to create new works, including Halcyon and THREE presented at Brisbane Powerhouse and one of ADC’s most ambitious projects to date, Lucie In the Sky which premiered at QPAC and toured interstate.

Common Ground Queensland

Common Ground is a community housing provider supporting those experiencing homelessness by providing property and tenancy management services and a range of supportive and affordable housing programs for individuals and families in need.

The Calile charitable contribution helped Common Ground to: respond to the housing needs of women and families escaping domestic and family violence with a safe and affordable place to call home; provide additional support and services to tenants to improve health and wellbeing; address the needs of individuals facing chronic homelessness; and support refugee and asylum seeker individuals and families to secure housing and links to support services.

Institute of Modern Art (IMA)

The IMA is Australia’s oldest independent public art gallery, with the impressive roster of exhibitions generously free for all to visit and enjoy.

Donations and grants in the art world are challenging for arts organisations to coordinate, with the IMA noting that unlike other donations that they receive, The Calile donation came without the added pressure and administration of lobbying or, limitations and restrictions on how the funding is used. The Calile donation will directly support the organisation with generating a raft of projects, including the ongoing production of their free arts new newspaper, Town Hall, which is focused on increasing the profile of contemporary art across the state. The donation will also assist with the presentation of next year’s emerging Queensland artists show which sees three rising-star artists produce new works.

We are grateful and while we look ahead to 2025 and wish for a better year for all, we will continue to support community charities into the new year and beyond.

Thank you to all who have stayed and donated this year.
