Calile Culture, Hotel

Calile Culture, Cut from Movement

Two anniversaries. Two creative forces. Australasian Dance Collective (ADC) marks 40 years of female-led innovation; Gail Sorronda celebrates 20 years in avant-garde fashion. To honour these milestones, The Calile presents an evening where movement becomes design and fashion is animated by performance.

The Calile Hotel shares a longstanding creative kinship with both ADC and James St designer Gail Sorronda, united by a commitment to bold expression and artistic innovation. On Wednesday 20 August, these forces converge for the latest edition of our Calile Culture series – an immersive evening celebrating the intersection of choreography and design, and the power of collaboration between kindred creative minds.

Calile Culture: Cut from Movement is a live experience where the architecture of the garment meets the breath of choreography. Dancers from Australasian Dance Collective inhabit Glass Teeth, costumed by acclaimed designer Gail Sorronda. Some move, others hold, transforming the space into a living composition where stillness and motion are equally charged. Part performance, part living installation, the work dissolves the boundaries between fashion, sculpture, and dance, inviting the audience into a charged space of presence, form, and transformation.

The evening begins with an immersive performance,  before settling into a thoughtful panel discussion hosted by Russh Magazine’s Talisa Sutton, exploring womanhood, creative kinship and legacy in the arts. Featuring creative forces including Gail Sorronda, ADC Artistic Director & CEO Amy Hollingsworth, and special guests, the discussion will reveal how female leadership shapes bold visions across time and disciplines.

Expect sharp silhouettes, moving bodies, and a singular cultural experience. Ticket price includes refreshments.
